INITIATION:
Panayotis D. Cangelaris was initiated into scouting as a Cub Scout in
the 3rd Cub Scout Pack of Ramleh District, in Alexandria Egypt (1960).
He became a Boy Scout in the 9th Scout Troop (1963) and a Venture Scout
in the 9th Venture Scout Unit (1968) of Areos District, in Athens
Greece.
ACTIVITY:
Assistant Scout Leader in the 20th Scout Troop of Areos District, in
Athens Greece (1969-1970).
Assistant Scout Leader (1970-1971), Scout Leader (1971-1974) and Group
Leader (1972-1974) in the 2nd Scout Group of Psychico District, in
Athens Greece.
Chief of Scout (1973-1976) and Cub Scout (1975-1976) Sections of
Psychico District, in Athens Greece.
Assistant Commissioner for Leader Training (1975-1977) in Psychico
District, in Athens Greece.
District Commissioner for Lycabettus, in Athens Greece (1979-1981).
Member of the International Relations Committee of the Scout
Association of Greece (1990-2003).
Member Emeritus (since 1994) and Honorary Member (since 1999) of the
General
Assembly of the Scout Association of Greece Foundation.
He has also
published (in Greek language)
the gazette "Scout Annals"
(1966-1967), the booklets "The 2nd Scout Group of Psychico Year-Book",
for the years 1970-1973 (1971-1974) and "The 1980 Album of the
Lycabettus District Commission" (1980), as well as the book
"Athanasios Lefkaditis 1872-1944, Founder of the
Greek Scout Movement"
(1972 and 1994).
A philatelist since his early
Scouting years, he owns one of the most interesting Scouts on Stamps
collections, has organized in Athens Greece
"The Scouts on Stamps Exhibition"
(1970) and created the
philatelic exhibits
"World Scout Movement"
(thematic),
"The Czech Scout Post
1918"
(one frame, traditional) and
"The Mafeking Blues
1900"
(one frame, traditional), which he
exhibited
in numerous philatelic exhibitions.
TRAINING
:
He has successfully attended Basic Training Courses for Scout Leaders
(1971), Cub Scout Leaders (1973), Group Leaders and Commissioners
(1973) and Venture Scout Leaders (1975).
Attained the "Wood Badge" for Scout Leaders (1972), Group Leaders and
Commissioners (1974), Cub Scout Leaders (1977) and Venture Scout
Leaders (1977).
He has also attended successfully the Assistant Scout Leader Trainers
Course (1974) and the National Scout Leader Trainers Course (1975) in
Athens Greece, as well as the International Training the Team Course at
the World Scout Training Centre at Gilwell Park, in London U.K. (1976).
He has been Assistant Scout Leader Trainer (1974-1978) and (1978-1981).

AWARDS:
He has been awarded with the Golden Jubilee Commemorative Badge (1960),
the Long Service Medal (1980) and the Distinguished Services Medal
(1994) of the Scout Association of Greece (Soma Hellinon Proskopon).
He has been elected Fellow of the Baden-Powell World Fellowship (1986)
and a Member of the
Benefactors' Circle (2000) of the Honours Programme of the World Scout Foundation.
As a holder of a Private Pilot
License he has been awarded the Scout Association of Greece Flyer's
Badge, the (Golden) Scout Flying Wings (2003).
