Born in Athens, Maria Yannakaki studied at the School of Fine Arts painting with Panayotis Tetsis (1977-1980) and mosaics with Yannis Kolefas (1980-1982).  With the help of a scholarship she made postgraduate studies in China (1984-1985), where she studied the techniques of the traditional Chinese painting.  She had her first solo exhibition in Beijing, China (1986).  However, since 1985 she had already participated to group shows.  Other one-woman and group exhibitions followed both in Greece and abroad.  Her work belongs to the area of expressionism with elements of the Chinese and Japanese art.  She lives and works in Athens.
