MICHAEL
ODYSSEUS YAKOUMAKIS (1956)
Born in Athens, Michael Odysseus Yakoumakis studied painting at the Academia delle Belle Arte of Naples, Italy and at the same time got a degree in geology from the University of that same city. He continued his studies in the Chinese and Japanese painting and the Sumi-e (1985-1990) and was thoroughly engaged with the study of the history of comic (2001-2003). Concurrently he is involved in the practice of the ancient eastern war arts (Kendo and Karate) having reached the levels of Sandan and Shodan. He had his first one-man show in Athens (2003) and has participated in group exhibitions abroad as well. Since 2003 too he is teaching Sumi-e and traditional Chinese and Japanese painting. He is the founder (2004) of the group "Romantic Anonymous", a branch of the international movement "Stuckism International". In his work, already influenced by the Chinese and Japanese painting, he rejects the meaningful art and concentrates himself in the pictorial creation which he considers as an ever lasting field of endless artistic research. He lives and works in Athens. |
