PERIS
THALASSINOS (1924-1989)
Born in Athens, Peris
Thalassinos studied
architecture at the Polytechnic Schools of Munich and Vienna
(1942-1943) and painting at the Schools of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with
Willi Baumeister (1943-1945) and Lausanne (1945-1948), where later he specialized in etching,
illustration and stage
scenery with Henry Bischoff, Jean-Jacques
Mennet and Casimir Raymond
(1948-1951). He had his first
one-man show in Stuttgart (1946) and shown solo
in Athens and Lausanne as well. and has participated in group
exhibitions abroad, including the Biennales of Sao Paolo, Lugano and
Alexandria.
He took part at
a series of Pan-Hellenic exhibitions as well.
He was founding member of the Institute for Graphic Arts and has been
Vice-President and later President of the Board of the Fine Arts
Chamber of Greece (1975-1980). Influenced by the expressionist
use of cubism, his
work moves between a geometric surrealism and a poetic constructivism. Peris Thalassinos passed away in
Athens (1989).
