  GRIGORIS SEMITECOLO (1935-2014)

Born in Athens, Grigoris Semitecolo was student of Panos Sarafianos and Yannis Moralis.  He had his first solo exhibition at the University of Munich (1962).  Other one-man and group shows followed both in Greece and abroad.  Together with painting he was also engaged in stage scenery and acting and has presented works of sound, movement and action.  A significant role in making his choices was played by the composer Yannis Christou, whom he considers as one of his tutors as well.  He was one of the founding members of the Center for Pictorial Arts (1973).  His work is placed in the frame of a geometric abstract new-realism.  Grigoris Semitecolo passed away in Athens (2014).
