EVANGELOS
KOUZOUNIS (1944-2020)
Born
in Athens, Evangelos Kouzounis was engaged since his early youth with
the art of gigantic posters for cinemas at the workshop of his father. He studied painting and stage
scenery
(1964-1968) at the School of Fine Arts with Yannis Moralis and later
sculpture at the École
Nationale Supérieure
des Arts Apliqués,
in Paris (1973-1976).
He
had his first one-man exhibition in Athens
(1976), but had
already since 1968 participated to group shows.
Many other solo and group exhibitions followed in Greece and abroad.
He had been awarded with the "Periklis Byzantios"
Prize (1974) and with the
1st Prize of the Trienalle at Sofia
(1988). Cubic, expressionist and
pop-art elements are coexisting in harmony in his
work. Evangelos
Kouzounis passed away
in
Athens (2020).
