YANNIS
KOURAKIS (1955-1993)
Born
at Chania (Crete), Yannis Kourakis studied painting and history of art
at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford
(1973-1974) and the
University of Leeds
(1974-1978).
He continued his studies at the University of London (1978-1981),
where he specialized on art teaching, having at the same time taught
history of art, design and painting at the Amersham
College of Art.
He had his first one-man
exhibition in London (1980).
A series of other
solo and group shows followed both in Greece and abroad, including his
participation to the Biennale of
Alexandria.
A combination of descriptive and abstract expressionim, his work moves
between the search and its refutation. Yannis Kourakis passed
away suddenly in Athens (1993).
