MICHALIS KATZOURAKIS (1933) Born in Alexandria (Egypt), Michalis Katzourakis studied in Paris (1951-1955) painting with André Lhote and graphic arts with Paul Colin. He had his first one-man exhibition in Athens (1955). Other solo and group shows in Greece and abroad followed. Since 1970 he almost exclusively creates high dimensional works of art (paintings and sculptures) destined to decorate public places (industries, banks, hotels, cruisers, public squares etc.) . In 1961 he was awarded with the 2nd and in 1962 with the 1st Prize of the International Contest for Tourist Poster at Livorno, Italy, while in 1972 he got the 3rd Prize at the Brno Biennale (Czechoslovakia) . He has been awarded with the Rizzoli Prize for the years 1964-1969 as well. He was decorated as an Officer of the Royal Order of the Phoenix (1965). His work belongs to the abstract geometry. He lives and works in Athens. |
