KYRIAKOS
KATZOURAKIS (1944-2021)
Born in
Athens, Kyriakos
Katzourakis studied painting at the School of Fine Arts (1963-1968)
with Yannis Moralis and stage scenery (1966-1968) with Vassilis
Vassiliadis. He continued his studies in London at St. Martins School of Art
(1973-1974) and at Croydon College of Art
(1974-1975), where he took lessons
on silk printing. He had his first one-man exhibition in
Athens
(1966).
His work was shown in a series of other
solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad as well.
Parallel
to painting he was also engaged with stage scenery and costume design
for the Greek movie industry. He had been awarded with the
"Parthenis Prize" of the "Astor" competition
(1969). He was a founding
member of the
group "New Greek Realists"
(1969).
His work is
distinct for its critical realism and has an intense expressionist
style. Kyriakos
Katzourakis passed way in Athens (2021).
