  YANNIS PSYCHOPEDIS (1945)

Born in Athens, Yannis Psychopedis studied painting and etching at the School of Fine Arts (1963-1968) and subsequently, with the help of a scholarship, he continued at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich (1971-1975).  From 1971 to 1992 he lived abroad (Munich, West Berlin and Brussels).  He had his first solo exhibition in Athens (1966).  He has also exhibited his work in solo and group shows both in Greece and abroad.  He was a member of the "Art Group A" and a founding member of the Center for Pictorial Art in Athens (1974).  In 1975 he was named member of the "Art Group 10/9" of Munich and in 1977 won the "Art Program" scholarship of the city of West Berlin.  In 1994 he was elected professor at the School of Fine Arts in Athens.  At this specific painting elements from comics and mail-art coexist with a critical expressionism.  He lives and works in Athens and Berlin.
