  COSTAS PANIARAS (1934-2014)

Born at Kiato (Corinth), Costas Paniaras took his first lessons in painting with Theodoros Lekos (Errikos) and then studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens with Yannis Moralis and Eleni Zongolopoulos.  In 1956 he moved to Paris, where he studied painting with André Lhote, mosaics and fresco with Gino Severini and lithography at the École des Beaux Arts.  He stayed in Paris until 1975, with long intervals during of which he traveled to the U.S.A., Iran and the Far East.  He has presented his work, paintings, sculptures and constructions in many solo and group exhibitions both in Greece and abroad.  He had his first one-man show in Athens (1956).  In his work abstract forms develop in monochromatic backgrounds.  Costas Paniaras passed away in Athens (2014).
