  ALKIS GHINIS (1933)

Born in Athens, Alkis Ghinis studied painting and sculpture in London (1961-1964 and 1966), at Cass Art College, School of Arts and Crafts with J. Bowles and E. Jukes.  He also studied with Giorgos Bouzianis and Eleni Pangalou.  He had his first solo exhibition in Athens (1960).  Other one-man and group shows followed in Greece and abroad.  He created the stage scenery and costumes of a number of theater performances too.  He taught as well at the open workshop for painting of the Municipality of Athens (1977-1990).  One of the main representatives of the Greek surrealism, he includes in his work elements of expressionist symbolism.  He lives and works in Athens.
